Visual Tracking is a technical skill, similar in some ways to playing a piano. When we learn to play a piano, we do have to learn the keyboard and know where middle C is for instance, but by any reasonable interpretation, we won’t be considered able to play the piano at all simply by describing what we know about the keyboard, in fact, until we can play a reasonably complicated piece with a recognizable level of skill, most would not consider us to be even a beginning piano player. Tracking is similar because like learning to play a piano, we do need to learn some basics, but the skill is gained through the actual practice of the art. Without practice, we are just “finding middle ‘C’ ” or waving our arms around trying to describe a keyboard, instead of developing the skill to see things that others cannot see.
