Learning to age sign begins with the first tracking lesson and continues as long as a tracking student continues to make observations. Knowledge of how sign ages is fundamental to being able to differentiate one sign line from another, and knowing that you are on the right track. Research into changes that occur over time give the researcher a formal approach to study these effects, and when the research is completed, it provides insight for others who have never had the opportunity to observe these effects for themselves. Both activities (conducting the research and reviewing results) are beneficial to tracking students and should be pursued as often as possible.
